Absinthe

Absinthe.  The Green Fairy.  The evil demon.  The drink that launched a thousand artists.  Contrary to popular belief, this drink is not completely illegal worldwide.  Of course, like every other fun thing in this world, it's illegal in the United States.  But it was never illegal in the Czech Republic and the law making it illegal in the UK was never officially signed, thereby making it "legal" in England.  You can indeed buy this stuff on the Internet if you know where to look (Google is your friend).  It'll cost you at least $70 a bottle for the good stuff.

Is it worth it?  Well, the absinthe high is very different.  It's a bit like "liquid Northern Lights", but the wormwood gives it a nasty chemical bite that you'll feel the next morning for sure.  Mark Carter and I drank up my first bottle of this one evening - we were both seeing spots the next day.  Absinthe - even without the wormwood - is highly alcoholic.  Two or three shots of this and you'll be rollin'.

But I can't tell you about it.  You'd just have to come over and sample some yourself!

UPDATE: After pushing it too far with some absinthe in London in February of this year (2004), I decided that I'm never drinking absinthe again.  Ever.
